How does Invisalign Work for Teenagers?
Invisalign is the process of straightening teeth through custom clear, plastic aligners. When your teenager comes into our office, impressions of their teeth will be taken in order to create the aligners. Using digital technology, each aligner will be made to move your teens’ teeth into a straighter position, based on the desired results. The aligners should be worn for 22 hours a day, only to be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.
Every 3-4 weeks, you should plan on seeing the dentist to check your progress and receive a new set of aligners. Teenagers can often have reservations about wearing aligners as they may feel uncomfortable at first, create a lisp, or produce more saliva. All of these problems can and will go away the more they wear their aligners. There is a way, however, to ensure that teenagers will wear their aligners.
Each set of aligners will come with a blue dot on the back of them. The blue dot will slowly turn from blue to white the more they wear their aligners. Teenagers will not be able to receive their next set of aligners until the blue dot is gone. This will help teenagers be more encouraged to wear their aligners as it will be the only way to progress in their Invisalign treatment.
Teenagers are also out with their friends and participating in many extra-curricular activities. It is more likely for them to lose or possibly break an aligner as they move about their busy lives. With Invisalign for teenagers, we offer extra replacements for aligners. Normally Invisalign only offers a certain amount of free replacements, but when we work with teenagers, we offer extra aligners.
